Lorenzo picked up the desk phone and pressed the intercom button.

“Miller,” Lorenzo said.

The speaker crackled, and a deep voice answered.

“Sir? The grid is back. We are moving to your position.”

“I have the assistant in the nursery,” Lorenzo said. “He is secured.”

“Send two men to take him down to the holding cells in the basement.”

“And Miller,” Lorenzo added, his eyes narrowing as he watched the screen.

“Where is Halloran?”

There was a long pause on the other end of the line, followed by the sound of static and rustling wind.

“We don’t know, sir,” Miller said.

“His vehicle is still in the main driveway.”

“But the driver’s side door is open.”

“And the engine is running.”

Lorenzo cursed under his breath, his hand gripping the phone so tightly his knuckles turned white.

“He is still on the grounds,” Lorenzo said.

“Search the perimeter. Check the boathouse and the service tunnels.”

“He knows the security codes,” I said, stepping closer to the desk.

“He can bypass the main gates if he reaches the southern fence.”
