“On the grounds of systemic corporate fraud and the active concealment of marital assets,” Sarah said.

Philip Dane let out a short, mocking laugh.

“Your Honor, this is a desperate delay tactic,” Dane said. “Mrs. Bellamy is trying to renegotiate her minority share in Rourke Regional Mobility by making baseless accusations.”

“They are not baseless,” Sarah said. “We have reason to believe that the corporate registry submitted to this court by the defendant is a forgery.”

The courtroom went entirely silent except for the sound of the rain beating against the glass.

Judge Beckett leaned forward, her eyes locking onto Sarah.

“That is a very serious allegation, Ms. Jenkins,” the judge said. “Do you have evidence to support this?”

“We do, Your Honor,” Sarah said, reaching into her briefcase. “We have issued an emergency subpoena to Ms. Sloane Pierce, the public relations director of Rourke Regional Mobility, who is currently present in this courtroom.”

Gavin whipped his head around to look at Sloane.

Sloane shrank back into her bench, her face turning a ghostly white.
