I watched the palm trees pass by outside the window.

When we arrived, two police cruisers were parked in the driveway.

Luis was standing by the front doors, looking alert.

He nodded to me as we walked inside.

“He is in the security office, Captain,” Luis said.

We walked down the hallway to the back room.

Luke was sitting in a chair, his hands cuffed behind his back.

His shirt was wrinkled, and he looked terrified.

An officer was standing near the door, writing in a notepad.

“Mr. Collins?” the officer asked.

“Yes,” I said. “I’m Mark Collins. This is my father, and this is my attorney, Sarah.”

“The suspect confessed to breaking into your apartment,” the officer said.

“He claimed he was retrieving family property.”

“He doesn’t live there,” I said. “He had no permission to be there.”

Luke looked up at me, his eyes pleading.

“Mark, please,” Luke said. “Hannah told me to do it.”

“She said if we got the bank statements, we could negotiate.”

“I don’t want to go to jail, man.”

“You should have thought about that before you broke my door, Luke,” I said.
