They stood Luke up and led him out of the room.

He didn’t look at me as he walked past.

We took the elevator up to my floor.

I stepped inside my home.

The living room was exactly as I had left it, except for a few drawers left open in my desk.

I walked over to the window and looked out at the bay.

The water was blue and calm.

“Are you going to be okay here tonight?” my father asked, standing in the doorway.

“I will,” I said. “Luis is getting a locksmith to fix the door right now.”

“I’m going to head home,” my father said. “Call me if you need anything.”

“I will, Dad. Thank you.”

He hugged me and left, closing the damaged door as best he could.
