“For me,” she said, nodding quickly as a tear ran down her cheek.

“Alvaro made sure my name was listed as the sole administrator for Valora Holdings.”

She stepped closer to me, her eyes wide with terror.

“He used the power of attorney I signed for the real estate deals in Sarrià.”

“They are going to charge me with money laundering, Inés.”

“I will spend twenty years in prison for a scheme I knew nothing about.”

I laid the document on the wooden desk.

The radiator in the corner began to hiss, releasing a dry, metallic heat into the room.

“He wanted a shield,” I said quietly.

“He knew the government was closing in on Horizonte Capital’s offshore structures.”

“He told me we were going to start over,” she whispered, covering her face with her hands.

“He told me he was transferring the funds to protect our future.”

“Alvaro only protects himself,” I said.

I watched her shoulders shake as she sobbed.

She was the woman who had helped destroy my marriage.

But in Alvaro’s eyes, she was just another asset to be liquidated when the market turned.
