Several black SUVs were parked in a semi-circle, their blue and red lights flashing against the falling snow.
Armed men in tactical gear were standing near the vehicles.
“If I press this button again,” Kane said, holding up the remote, “they will move in. They won’t find me. They will find you, your sister, and a boat full of missing children.”
He stepped closer to Isabella, his hand resting on her shoulder.
“You have a choice, Dante,” Kane said.
He looked at me, his eyes cold behind his glasses.
“You can take your sister and Eli’s mother, and you can walk away,” he said. “You can pretend none of this ever happened, and your family lives.”
He paused, his finger hovering over the remote.
“Or,” he said, “you can try to expose me. And you can watch your entire crime family be destroyed by the very laws you think you’ve escaped.”
My phone in my pocket began to vibrate again.
