I kept my hand in my coat pocket, my fingers pressed against the vibrating glass of the phone.
The pulse was steady.
Three short vibrations, then a pause.
It was Luca’s signal from the yacht’s communication bay downstairs.
He had found the satellite array, but he was waiting for my command to open the feed.
“Answer it if you must,” Kane said.
He did not move his hand from Isabella’s shoulder.
“But it won’t change the men waiting at the gate.”
“They are Vance’s men.”
“They don’t take orders from anyone but me.”
Isabella’s eyes were fixed on mine.
Her skin was pale, almost translucent under the cabin’s fluorescent lights.
She shook her head slightly.
“Don’t do it, Dante,” she whispered.
“He’s lying.”
“He won’t let any of us leave this harbor alive.”
Kane let out a short, dry laugh.
“I am a man of my word, Isabella,” he said.
“A war with the Moretti family is expensive and loud.”
“I prefer quiet transactions.”
He looked back at me, his glasses catching the blue light from the television screen.
“You take your sister and Rachel Mercer,” Kane said.
