I dragged his body behind the bar to keep it out of sight from the windows.
I looked out the glass doors.
Two more guards were standing near the gangway, their backs turned to the yacht as they argued about something.
The snow was falling so thickly now that I could barely see the lights of the harbor warehouse fifty yards away.
My phone rang in my pocket.
This time, it was a voice call.
I answered it, keeping my eyes on the guards outside.
“Dante,” Luca’s voice came through the speaker, distorted by static. “We have a problem.”
“What is it?” I asked.
“The harbor police just arrived at the main gate,” Luca said. “But they aren’t here to inspect. They’re setting up a perimeter to block anyone from leaving.”
“Are they Kane’s men?” I asked.
“Yes,” Luca said. “They’re waiting for his signal. If you try to leave by the road, you’ll run right into them.”
“I have the children,” I said. “And Rachel.”
“Isabella?” Luca asked.
“I haven’t found her yet,” I said. “She’s not in the hold.”
There was a pause on the line.
