The Sister Who Stole My Life and the Husband Who Paid the Price
I paused, watching her face closely.
“There was a pending transfer request,” I murmured.
“For the entire seven hundred and twenty thousand dollars from the house sale.”
Chloe’s eyes widened, a brief flash of hunger and panic crossing her features before she masked it.
She knew about the money.
Of course she did.
*Two minutes and fifteen seconds.*
My thigh vibrated again as the receiver processed the first batch of encrypted data from her phone.
The cloning software was digging through her synced cloud backups and her messaging apps.
“Did the transfer go through?” Chloe asked.
She tried to sound casual, but her voice cracked on the word *through*.
“Not yet,” I said. “The bank flagged it because of the foreign destination.”
“Foreign?” she asked, her voice dropping to a whisper.
“Panama,” I said.
Chloe’s face went completely pale.
She reached for her phone, her thumb hovering over the home button as if she wanted to check her messages right then and there.
“Don’t touch it,” I said quickly, keeping my tone soft and worried.
“The connection on those backup batteries is fragile.”
