The Silent Real Estate Mogul Reclaims Her Daughters Dignity and Fortune
I had wanted to believe Graham loved me for who I was, not what I owned.
It took me five years of marriage to realize he only loved the idea of his own success.
And it took me another five years to realize he was willing to steal from his own children to maintain that illusion.
Graham sank into the chair next to me, his body suddenly seeming to lose all its strength.
“You lied to me,” he said, his voice shaking. “For ten years. You let me think we were struggling to pay the mortgage on the Highland Park house.”
“I paid the down payment on that house through an anonymous trust,” I said. “And I did it so my daughters would have a home, despite your terrible investments.”
Graham looked at the creditors, his expression desperate.
“This changes things,” Graham said quickly, turning to Sterling. “If my wife owns Vanguard, then Vanguard’s assets can secure my loans. We can restructure the twelve million dollar debt.”
“Absolutely not,” I said.
Graham flinched.
“Jocelyn, be reasonable,” he pleaded. “We are talking about my reputation. If the bank forecloses on my projects, we are ruined.”
