“You are ruined, Graham,” I corrected him. “Vanguard will not guarantee a single dollar of your personal or corporate debt.”
Sterling cleared his throat.
“Mrs. Ralston, your husband used three commercial properties in North Dallas as collateral for his latest line of credit,” Sterling said. “He presented deeds showing he owned them.”
“The Oak Lawn medical center,” I said. “And the retail strip on Preston Road.”
Sterling nodded. “Yes. Those are the primary assets.”
“He does not own them,” I said. “Those properties belong to Vanguard. The deeds he showed you were forged.”
The second creditor, a younger man with slicked-back hair, wrote something down in a small notebook with a gold pen.
“This is bank fraud, Mr. Ralston,” the younger man said. “The federal authorities will have to be notified.”
Graham’s face drained of what little color he had left.
