“You aren’t going anywhere, Vance,” Adrian said.

“Watch me,” Marcus whispered.

Suddenly, the lights in the warehouse flickered and went out, plunging us into near darkness.

Only the emergency red lights cast a dull glow over the office.

Downstairs, a loud bang echoed through the steel structure.

“Power’s cut!” Carter shouted, drawing his flashlight.

In the confusion, Marcus lunged.

He didn’t go for Adrian or me.

He threw his weight against the weak wooden door behind his desk, which led to a rear fire escape.

The wood splintered, and Marcus vanished into the rainy night.

“Sir, I’ll pursue,” Carter said, moving toward the broken door.

“No,” Adrian said, holding up a hand. “Let him go.”

“But sir—”

“We have the evidence,” Adrian said, his voice cold and steady. “And we have Emily’s sister. He has nowhere to run.”

I looked at the blank, dark screen of the laptop Marcus had left behind.

My mind was racing, calculating.

He thought he could flee.

He thought his money would protect him overseas.

But I knew his codes now.

I knew his primary bank, his account routing, and his security protocols.
