Adrian turned to me, his flashlight illuminating the dust motes in the air.
“Are you alright, Emily?” he asked.
“Yes,” I said, though my hands were still trembling.
“We need to get you and your sister out of here,” Adrian said, placing a hand gently on my shoulder.
“Wait,” I said, pointing to the laptop. “I need that.”
“Why?” Adrian asked, his brow furrowing.
“He’s going to try to use his offshore accounts to pay for his escape,” I said.
“Can you stop him?” Adrian asked.
“If I can get to a secure terminal at the Romano headquarters,” I said. “I can freeze every dollar he has.”
Adrian looked at me, a faint, approving smile appearing on his lips.
“Then let’s go,” Adrian said.
We walked down the metal stairs, our flashlights cutting through the dark warehouse.
