“She probably doesn’t even know what a lobster looks like,” Vivian laughed, the sound harsh and dry. “I saw her looking at my silver tea service last month like it was made of gold. She has no class.”

Thomas’s voice came through the channel, speaking in a low whisper that only the internal staff could hear. “Director, can you hear them?”

I tapped my earpiece twice to confirm.

“We are at the side station near their table,” Thomas whispered into his collar microphone. “Would you like me to have them removed?”

“No,” I whispered back. “Serve them the best we have. Charge everything to Daniel’s card.”

“Understood,” Thomas said.

I stepped closer to the double swinging doors of the kitchen, looking through the small glass viewing port.

The Pearl Room was beautiful, with its white linen tables, towering orchid arrangements, and panoramic views of the turquoise bay.

Vivian was wearing a bright yellow linen suit that looked too tight for her, her neck draped in heavy gold chains.

Claire was scrolling on her phone, her designer handbag sitting proudly on its own chair next to her.
