“What is this, Margaret?” Arthur asked, taking the papers she offered.

“This is an emergency court order, signed by Judge Alvarez less than an hour ago,” Margaret said.

Nathan took a step toward her, his face turning a dark, angry red.

“You cannot get an emergency order on a whim, Margaret. On what grounds?”

“On the grounds of the domestic conduct clause in the Crane Family Trust,” Margaret said, her voice echoing in the high-ceilinged foyer.

She pointed a finger toward the dining room.

“You have deliberately damaged a trust asset to force my client out of her ancestral home,” Margaret said. “You have brought unauthorized third parties into this residence for the purpose of planning unauthorized modifications.”

“That is absurd,” Nathan said, laughing nervously. “We are married. I have a right to be here.”

“Not anymore,” Margaret said.

She reached into her bag and pulled out another document, holding it directly in front of Nathan’s face.

“The domestic conduct clause states that any spouse who engages in behavior detrimental to the physical or mental well-being of the primary beneficiary, or who attempts to covertly liquidate or alter trust real estate, forfeits all residency rights immediately.”
