“Daniel,” I whispered.
“The boys.”
“The boys are safe with Ruth,” he said, leaning down closer to me.
“But they need you, Claire.”
“And you need a place where you can heal without eyes on you.”
Dr. Shah looked between the two of us, his professional reserve softening.
“Setting up an intensive home-care unit is incredibly expensive, Mr. Whitmore.”
“I don’t care about the cost,” Daniel said.
“Can you facilitate the transfer or not?”
Dr. Shah sighed, looking down at his tablet.
“If you can secure the necessary cardiac monitoring equipment and a registered nurse by tonight, I will authorize it.”
“But I will personally oversee her treatment plan.”
“I will visit the estate daily.”
“Thank you,” Daniel said.
He looked back at the nurse.
“Prepare the paperwork.”
The nurse nodded quickly and left the room.
The medicine was beginning to take hold of my body.
The sharp pain in my chest dulls to a heavy, throbbing ache.
My eyelids felt like lead.
Daniel did not let go of my hand.
“You’re going home, Claire,” he murmured.
