“We are here to conclude the custody and asset hearings in the matter of Rourke versus Rourke,” she said.

Her voice was crisp and devoid of emotion.

“Before we begin closing arguments,” Sarah said, standing up, “the respondent has a motion to submit new evidence.”

Philip Dane immediately rose to his feet.

“Your Honor, this is highly irregular,” Dane said. “Discovery has been closed for weeks.”

“This evidence was secured late last night, Your Honor,” Sarah replied, holding up a manila folder. “It contains certified registry documents and financial ledgers that demonstrate active fraud by the petitioner.”

Judge Beckett looked at Sarah, then at Dane.

“Bring it forward,” the judge said.

The bailiff took the folder from Sarah and carried it to the bench.

I watched Gavin’s face.

He smirked, leaning back in his chair.

The silence in the courtroom grew heavy.

The only sound was the rain beating against the high windows.

Judge Beckett turned the pages slowly.

Her expression did not change, but her eyes narrowed as she read.
