“All rise,” the bailiff announced.

We stood as Judge Beckett adjusted her glasses and looked down at us.

“We are here in the matter of Bellamy versus Rourke,” Judge Beckett said, her voice echoing in the high-ceilinged room. “I understand there are outstanding motions regarding temporary custody and corporate asset valuation.”

Philip Dane stood up immediately, smoothing his tie.

“Your Honor, if I may,” Dane said, his voice dripping with smooth confidence. “My client has prepared a fully executed custody agreement that resolves these matters without further burdening the court.”

He turned and smiled at me, a wolf showing its teeth.

“We believe Mrs. Bellamy is prepared to sign this morning,” Dane added.

Sarah stood up beside me, her voice ringing clear and steady.

“That is incorrect, Your Honor,” Sarah said. “We have not signed any agreement, and we have filed an emergency motion this morning.”

Gavin’s smile vanished.
