Vivian’s hand went to her throat, her pearl necklace catching the light.
“Your Honor,” Lydia said, her voice steady and calm.
“That recording was captured by a baby monitor system installed in the nursery.”
“The system was registered to my client, Evelyn Vale Hartwell.”
“It was paid for with her personal funds, and the storage was maintained on her private cloud account.”
Vance shook his head, but his movement lacked its previous energy.
“This is an invasion of privacy,” Vance said, though his voice was softer now.
“It was recorded in my client’s own home, under false pretenses.”
“It was recorded in the nursery of my client’s child,” Lydia corrected him.
“A room to which both parents had equal access and ownership.”
Lydia walked back to her table and picked up a thick blue folder.
“Furthermore, we have a signed and notarized statement from Ms. Sloane Whitaker.”
She held up the document so the judge could see the blue notary seal at the bottom.
“This statement was taken two days ago in the presence of independent counsel,” Lydia said.
