“Put that away,” Derek pointed at her.
“This recording is going straight to the police, Mr. Vance,” Annika said.
“You are currently committing assault in the presence of witnesses.”
Derek let out a sharp, desperate breath.
He let go of my arm, pushing me backward so hard I collided with the sideboard.
The wood bit into my lower back, but I kept my balance.
“You are all against me,” Derek said, looking around the room.
He looked like a cornered animal, his hair disheveled, his tie slightly askew.
“You think you can destroy my reputation?” he asked.
“You did that yourself, Derek,” Arthur said.
He walked over to my side, placing a hand on my shoulder.
“Are you alright, Monica?” he asked.
I nodded, my hand going to my bruised arm.
“I am fine,” I said.
“He is not going to hurt you again,” Arthur said.
