The traffic on I-95 was crawled to a stop, brake lights glowing red in the afternoon gloom.

“This is Marisol Alvarez,” she said into the speaker. “I have new, exculpatory evidence regarding the Derek Coleman file.”
She listened for a moment.
“Yes,” Marisol said. “A prior incident with identical signatures. We are coming to your office now.”

“The deputy DA will meet us in twenty minutes,” Marisol said.
“What about Stephanie?” I asked. “If she is looking for Sarah, she knows we are close.”
“We will deal with Stephanie through the court,” Marisol said. “Once Derek is indicted on federal fraud charges, her access to his money will freeze.”
My phone vibrated in my purse.
The screen lit up with an unknown number.
I hesitated, my finger hovering over the glass.
