I heard a sharp intake of breath on the other end of the line.
“He’s losing his mind,” Rachel whispered. “My mother is trying to help him, but he won’t listen.”
“Where is he?” I asked.
“He’s at the office,” she said. “He’s been there since this afternoon.”
“Patricia is there with him.”
“She’s trying to find a way to move the remaining funds from the family trust.”
“He can’t touch those,” I said. “Robert has a freeze on them.”
“He’s trying anyway,” Rachel said. “He’s talking about leaving.”
“Leaving the country?” I asked.
“He kept asking my mother where her old passport was,” Rachel said. “The one from her dual citizenship.”
“He’s desperate, Clara.”
“He knows the forensic audit is going to show the tax evasion on the commercial builds.”
I looked over at Robert, who was watching me closely.
“Did he mention his offshore accounts?” I asked Rachel.
“He was on the phone with a broker in Zurich,” she said. “I heard him screaming about liquidation.”
“He wanted everything transferred to an account in Panama by tomorrow morning.”
