“We are getting the prenatal DNA test tomorrow morning,” Patricia said to her. “The appointment is booked. If you refuse, I will make sure Daniel cuts you off entirely.”

“It is his!” Vanessa screamed.

“We will let the lab decide that,” Patricia said.

She spoke back into the phone, her tone turning cold again.

“Claire, are you listening to me?”

“I’m listening,” I said.

“Sign the waiver,” Patricia said. “If you don’t, Daniel will lose the company. The creditors will take everything.”

“Including the house in the city,” she added.

“That house is already tied up in the divorce,” I said.

“It won’t matter if the bank forecloses on it first,” Patricia said.

I looked at the scanned ledgers on my screen.

The numbers were clear.

Daniel had been siphoning money for three years.

“I won’t sign anything without Robert,” I said.

“If you don’t sign by tomorrow morning, Daniel is going to file for corporate restructuring,” Patricia said.

“He will wipe out the equity you are fighting for.”

“That would be illegal under the current injunction,” I said.

“He is desperate, Claire,” Patricia said.
