All the color drained from his skin, leaving him looking gray and hollow.

“Where did you get that?” he whispered.

“Sophia,” I said simply.

Daniel closed his eyes for a moment, his fists clenching at his sides.

“She lied to you,” he said, though his voice lacked any real conviction. “That’s not my account.”

“The account is under your mother’s maiden name, Daniel,” Arthur said, standing up. “And the transactions trace directly back to your company’s accounts.”

“Emily, please,” Daniel said, taking a step toward the desk. “We can work this out. We don’t need to involve the lawyers.”

“Arthur is my lawyer,” I said, closing the laptop and placing the USB drive in my purse. “And we are already involved.”

“If you do this, my family will lose everything,” Daniel said, his voice cracking. “My parents will have to leave their home.”

“They should have thought of that before they helped you hide my inheritance,” I said.

I stood up, picked up my coat, and walked past him without looking back.
