“Keep her name out of your mouth,” Luke said.
He tightened his grip on the box.
“I know what’s in here, Vivian,” Luke said.
“Do you?” Vivian asked, taking a slow step forward.
“The trust accounts,” Luke said. “The offshore transfers.”
Vivian laughed, a short, dry sound that echoed off the metal walls.
“Arthur’s precious legacy,” she said. “He thinks he controls every dollar, every life in this family.”
“You drained them,” Luke said.
“I secured my future,” Vivian corrected, her eyes flashing. “There is a difference.”
“You used Elena’s name,” I said, my voice shaking as I spoke up from behind Luke.
I stepped out from his shadow, my legs trembling, but I forced myself to stand straight.
“Every single withdrawal has my signature on it,” I said. “I saw the sheets before we closed the box.”
Vivian’s smile did not fade.
“It is a very good imitation, isn’t it?” Vivian asked.
“You forged her signature on federal bank documents,” Luke said, his knuckles turning white against the plastic box. “You set her up to take the fall for millions of dollars.”
