Dominic strode into the circle of wind, his face set like granite.
“It’s over, Mother,” he said.
Caterina finally looked up, her cold, dark eyes locking onto her son.
There was no warmth in her expression, only the calculation of a woman who had run a criminal empire from behind velvet curtains for thirty years.
“You foolish boy,” she said, her voice sharp and clear despite the roar of the blades. “You ruined everything for a bookstore girl and a bastard child.”
The words cut through me, but I kept my eyes on the tablet in her hand.
“Where is Lucia?” I demanded, stepping up beside Dominic.
Caterina sneered at me, a cruel twist of her red lips.
“She is in a safe place, Elena,” she said. “A place you will never find if I am arrested.”
“The FBI is already at the warehouse, Mother,” Dominic said, taking another step forward. “Marco tracked the signal from the video feed.”
Caterina’s hand trembled slightly on the edge of the tablet.
“He couldn’t have,” she whispered.
