“Signed by Judge Vance less than two hours ago.”

She tapped the blue seal with her index finger.

“It suspends all medical proxy rights held by Harrison Ashford pending a full evidentiary hearing.”

“That’s impossible,” Harrison said, his voice rising.

“My lawyers would have been notified.”

“They were,” Grace said. “They are likely trying to call you right now.”

As if on cue, a quiet vibration hummed from Harrison’s jacket pocket.

The small screen of his phone lit up, casting a pale blue glow against his chest.

He did not answer it, his eyes remaining locked on the papers in Grace’s hand.

“This is a delay tactic,” Beatrice said, though her voice shook slightly.

“Dr. Marren, the medical emergency is active. The injunction cannot stop a critical psychiatric intervention.”

“Actually, it can,” Grace replied.

She handed a copy of the document to Dr. Marren.

“If you touch her, Doctor, you will lose your medical license before the sun rises tomorrow.”

Dr. Marren looked down at the paper, his fingers trembling as he scanned the lines.

He swallowed hard, his face turning pale.
