Graham looked up, his eyes red. “Claire, please. We can work this out. We can put the money back.”
“With what money, Graham?” I asked. “You spent it. You bought the mountain property. You paid off Sloane’s debts.”
Sloane’s name hung in the air.
No one spoke.
“Where is Sloane?” I asked.
“She left for New York this morning,” Vance said. “She took her personal files from my office. She knew this was coming.”
“She won’t get far,” Rachel said. “The freeze orders on all joint accounts are already being processed.”
I looked at the silver drive still plugged into Daniel’s laptop.
The blue light from the indicator was steady.
“I want them out of this house,” I said to Marcus.
“Claire, you can’t just throw me out,” Graham said, his voice cracking. “This is my home too.”
“The deed is in my mother’s name,” I said. “It belongs to the foundation. You have ten minutes to pack a bag.”
