Marcus stepped closer to Graham, his hand resting near his belt.
“Let’s go, Mr. Hart,” Marcus said.
Graham looked at Margaret, but his mother was already moving toward the door, her head held high, refusing to look at any of us.
“We will discuss this through our attorneys,” Margaret said as she walked out.
“There won’t be much to discuss,” Rachel said to her retreating back. “The state attorney general will be the one doing the talking.”
The heavy oak door clicked shut behind them.
The room felt suddenly larger, and much colder.
I sat down in the chair nearest to Daniel.
“Are you okay?” Daniel asked softly.
“I am,” I said, though my hands were shaking. “I just want this over.”
“We are close,” Rachel said, closing her leather binder. “With Vance’s cooperation and these files, the forensic audit will be finished by the end of the week.”
“What happens to the foundation?” I asked.
“Once the court freezes their remaining personal assets, we will begin the liquidation process,” Rachel said. “Every dollar stolen will be returned. The Hart name will be cleared.”
