On the projector screen, the terminal window froze, then blinked out of existence.

Daniel let out a long breath and leaned back in his leather chair.

“The data is safe,” Daniel said. “But they were close. Another minute and we would have lost the entire transaction history from 2022.”

Graham sank into his chair, his face pale under the bright lights.

He did not look at me. He looked at the mahogany table, his thumb tracing a scratch in the wood.

“This is absurd,” Margaret said, her voice rising slightly. “We are discussing family business. There is no need for this theatrical display.”

“It stopped being family business when you stole twelve million dollars from my mother’s foundation,” I said.

Vance Harrison cleared his throat.

The sound was dry and sharp in the quiet room.

He slid his tablet across the table toward Rachel.

“I have no intention of going to prison for Graham’s incompetence,” Vance said.

Graham snapped his head up, his eyes wide. “Vance, what are you doing?”

“Saving my firm,” Vance said. “And my family.”
