I took a step back, holding the folder against my ribs.
Julian looked at me, his grey eyes softening for a fraction of a second, before he turned his gaze back to Margaret.
“You look like you’ve seen a ghost,” Julian said.
“Julian,” Thomas whispered, his voice cracking with emotion. “You’re alive.”
“No thanks to Margaret,” Julian said, stopping a few feet from the altar.
“Get out of here,” Ethan snarled, his face twisting with rage as he stepped in front of his mother. “You don’t belong here.”
Julian didn’t flinch.
“I belong here more than you know, Ethan,” Julian said.
Sabrina looked between Julian and Ethan, her eyes wide with confusion. “Ethan, who is this?”
“My brother,” Ethan spat. “The family disappointment.”
“The brother you locked away,” Julian corrected, his voice deadpan.
Margaret finally found her voice, her hand clutching her pearl necklace so tightly the string looked ready to snap.
“You are sick, Julian,” Margaret said, her voice rising in pitch. “You belong in the facility. Security! Where is security?”
“They aren’t coming, Margaret,” Julian said. “I walked right past them.”
