He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a folded piece of paper, tossing it onto the small table near the altar.
“What is that?” Thomas asked, reaching for it.
“The release forms from the Oakridge Sanitarium,” Julian said. “Or rather, the falsified admission papers Margaret signed five years ago.”
I stared at the paper, my chest tightening. “Falsified?”
Julian looked at me. “She had two corrupt doctors sign off on my mental instability.”
“That is a lie!” Margaret screamed, her face turning a blotchy red. “You were unstable, Julian! You were going to ruin this family!”
“I was going to expose Ethan’s embezzlement,” Julian said, his eyes narrowing. “And I was going to claim my rightful share of Caldwell Innovations.”
He took another step toward Margaret, his presence dominating the room.
“So you paid to have me put in a locked ward under an assumed name,” Julian said. “You told the world I ran away to Europe.”
Thomas picked up the paper, his hands shaking violently as he read the names on the document.
