The board members began talking all at once, their voices a chaotic din of anger and confusion.

“What is the meaning of this, Victoria?” one of the elderly board members demanded, pointing a trembling finger at the screen.

Victoria did not answer him.

She turned her head, looking directly at the security camera in the corner of the boardroom.

It was as if she were looking right at me.

In the server room, Arthur moved.

He lunged forward, his large hand grabbing my forearm.

I twisted my wrist, trying to break his grip, but his fingers were like steel.

He pulled me toward the door, his other hand reaching for my laptop.

“Toby, lock the terminal!” I screamed.

Toby hesitated for a fraction of a second.

Then he slammed his hand down on the red emergency cutoff switch on the wall console.

The server racks groaned as the backup power kicked in, but the upload was already complete.

The data was in the cloud, in the hands of the federal authorities, and on every screen in the building.

Arthur swore, throwing me off balance.
