I stumbled against Rack Four, my shoulder hitting the metal frame hard.
My phone slipped from my hand and slid across the floor, stopping near Toby’s feet.
“Get out of here, Toby,” Arthur growled, turning his full attention to me.
Toby looked at the phone, then at me, and then at Arthur.
Without a word, Toby grabbed his radio, bolted out the door, and ran down the hallway.
Arthur stepped between me and the exit.
“You think you saved him,” Arthur said, his voice low. “Alexander Vale is ruined. No one will care about this tomorrow.”

On the floor, my phone was still connected to the federal prosecutor.
“We are on the elevator,” Miller’s voice echoed faintly from the speaker on the floor. “Security is trying to block us, but we have a federal warrant.”
Arthur looked down at the phone.
He stepped on the screen with his heavy boot, crushing the glass into a hundred tiny pieces.
The line went dead.
He looked back at me, his face grim.
“You’re coming with me,” he said.
