The Cost of Inheritance and the Truth Behind a Family Legacy
A chill ran down my spine that had nothing to do with the wet rain.
“On what grounds?” I asked.
“A history of severe psychiatric instability,” Yasmin said.
“Vale fabricated medical records dating back three years.”
“He created a fake paper trail of suicide threats and severe drug abuse.”
“They were going to lock you up in Vale’s private facility in Sonoma.”
“Once you were inside, Mark would have full power of attorney over Abigail’s estate.”
I stared at her, my stomach turning with a mixture of anger and disgust.
“And you went along with this,” I said, my voice cold.
“I didn’t have a choice!” she cried, her voice cracking in the quiet warehouse.
“You always have a choice, Yasmin.”
“He would have ruined me too,” she said, looking down at the concrete floor.
“But now he’s talking about burning the agave ranch.”
“He’s talking about killing people, Alana.”
“I am not going down for murder.”
“I am not going to prison for him.”
She took a deep breath and looked me directly in the eyes.
“I will testify,” she said.
