“I’m looking at the transfer alerts now,” I said. “She’s using the executive override credentials.”
“I’ll contact our legal counsel immediately,” Margaret said. “We have an injunction request drafted, but we need a judge to sign it to freeze the domestic transfers.”
“How long will that take?” I asked as the elevator doors slid open.
“Two hours, at least,” Margaret said. “Maybe three.”
“That’s too late,” I said. “She’ll be in the air by then.”
“Do what you can, Claire,” Margaret said. “But do not put yourself in jeopardy.”
I hung up the phone and stepped into the elevator with Julian.
The air inside the small metal box smelled of leather and wet wool.
“Where is Adrian now?” Julian asked as we descended.
“He was supposed to be at the Drake Hotel,” I said. “He had a meeting with his bond underwriters at six.”
“That was thirty minutes ago,” Julian said, checking his watch.
The elevator chimed, and the doors opened into the lobby.
The marble floor was polished to a high shine, reflecting the brass fixtures on the walls.
We walked out into the cool evening air.
