Reclaiming My Home After My Family Declared Me Dead Overseas
The federal building was a massive concrete structure in the center of the city.
The warmth of the lobby did little to ease the tension in my chest.
We met Daniel Reyes in a conference room on the sixth floor.
Large boxes of financial documents were stacked against the wall.
“We spent the night going through the frozen accounts,” Reyes said, spreading a map of accounts across the table.
“What did you find?” I asked, sitting down with Owen on my lap.
“Walter was highly organized,” Reyes said. “But he was desperate. When Jake showed up alive, Walter started moving massive sums of money to offshore accounts in Panama.”
He pointed to a column of figures.
“Because we acted quickly, we intercepted the transfers before they cleared the intermediate banks,” Reyes explained.
“So the money is safe?” Jake asked.
“It is locked in a federal escrow account,” Reyes said. “We have enough evidence of forgery and identity theft to permanently return the entire trust to you.”
He looked at me.
“And we have the security footage from the bank,” Reyes added.
