Patricia was standing right behind him, nodding and smiling at the teller.

“This is grand larceny,” Reyes said. “They knew exactly what they were doing.”

“Where is Logan?” Jake asked.

“The state police found him hiding in an abandoned hunter’s cabin near the interstate,” Reyes said. “He had a briefcase with three hundred thousand dollars in cash. He’s in federal custody now.”

“And my parents?” Jake asked, his voice quiet.

“Walter and Patricia are being held without bail,” Reyes said. “The federal prosecutor is charging them with conspiracy, wire fraud, bank fraud, and forgery.”

He paused, looking down at his notes.

“There’s also the matter of what happened to Hannah and the baby,” Reyes said gently.

I felt a chill run down my spine as I remembered the freezing wind on the porch.

“The prosecutor is adding charges of child endangerment and reckless endangerment,” Reyes said. “Locking a mother and a six-month-old baby out in a blizzard is a felony. They are looking at substantial prison sentences.”
