Landon slumped back in his chair, his face pale and empty.
I felt a strange, cold clarity wash over me.
The man I had married, the man I had trusted with my life and the life of our child, was gone.
Only this coward remained.
“I want a lawyer,” Landon whispered.
Miller stood up, gathered his files, and walked out of the room without another word.
Harris tapped my arm. “Let’s go back to my office, Marissa.”
I turned away from the glass, not wanting to look at Landon for another second.
We walked back down the hallway and entered Harris’s small, cluttered office.
Arthur pulled out a vinyl chair for me, and I sank into it, my body aching with fatigue.
“The hospital called while we were in there,” Arthur said, checking his phone. “Dr. Vance wants an update.”
“How is Rowan?” Harris asked, sitting behind his desk.
“Stable, but they’re still monitoring his oxygen levels,” I said. “He has a long recovery ahead.”
“This evidence is crucial,” Harris said, typing on his computer. “I’m forwarding the digital forensics to the District Attorney’s office right now.”
