“You are both under arrest for felony child endangerment and unlawful restraint.”

Landon froze, his phone slipping from his hand and clattering onto the tile floor.

“What?” Landon stammered, his face instantly losing its color under his sunburn. “What are you talking about?”

“This is an outrage,” Patricia barked, stepping in front of her son. “Do you know who my husband is? We have just returned from a private estate.”

“Ma’am, step back and place your hands behind your back,” one of the uniformed officers said, reaching for his utility belt.

“Don’t you dare touch me!” Patricia shrieked, her voice echoing off the high terminal ceiling.

Several travelers stopped to stare, pulling their luggage to a halt.

“Landon, do something!” Patricia demanded, turning to her son.

But Landon wasn’t looking at his mother.

He had spotted me standing behind the barrier.

His mouth fell open, his eyes darting from me to the police officers.

“Marissa?” Landon called out, his voice cracking. “Marissa, what is this? Tell them to stop.”

I didn’t answer.

I stood perfectly still, watching him.

“Turn around, sir,” the officer told Landon, grabbing his arm.
