Landon flinched, pulling back. “No, wait! This is a mistake! I didn’t lock her in!”
The officer forced Landon’s arm behind his back, the metal handcuffs clicking shut with a cold, heavy sound.
“You have the right to remain silent,” the officer began to read.
“Marissa!” Landon yelled, his eyes wide with sudden terror. “It was her! It was my mother’s idea!”
Patricia whipped her head around, her face contorting in rage. “Landon, shut your mouth!”
“She told me you were just being dramatic!” Landon screamed, struggling against the officer’s grip as he was led toward the exit. “She said the baby would be fine! She’s the one who bought the tickets, Marissa! She made me go!”
Patricia was being handcuffed by the other officer, her straw hat falling off her head and rolling onto the dirty floor.
“You cowardly boy,” Patricia hissed at her son, her voice low and sharp.
“It wasn’t me!” Landon kept shouting, his voice echoing through the terminal. “I wanted to stay! She forced me, Marissa! Check the texts! She planned the whole thing!”
