“They are not allegations,” Jennifer said. “The notary has already signed an affidavit admitting she did not witness Tessa sign these documents.”

Brent looked down at his lap, his jaw clenching.

“We have also notified the district attorney’s office,” Jennifer added. “The fraud division has opened a file.”

Brent’s head snapped up.

“Tessa, please,” he said, his voice cracking. “We can work this out between us.”

“Do not speak to my client,” Jennifer said.

“I need to talk to my wife,” Brent said, leaning forward. “Tessa, if they charge me, I lose my license. I won’t be able to work.”

“You should have thought about that before you changed the locks on my house,” I said.

The room fell completely silent.

The only sound was the distant hum of the building’s ventilation system.

“We have a draft agreement,” Jennifer said, pulling another document from her folder.

She slid it toward Mr. Vance.

“This is a complete and total forfeiture of all remaining marital assets,” Jennifer said.

“That’s crazy,” Brent muttered.

“It includes your entire share of the equity from the Redwood Crest Drive mansion,” Jennifer continued. “It also includes your claim on the investment portfolio.”
