How My Family Tried to Destroy Me and Ended Up Ruining Themselves
“My grandfather left a will?” I asked.
“A legal, notarized will,” Arthur said. “And the original trust documents.”
“He knew what your parents were,” Arthur continued. “He knew their greed would eventually destroy the family.”
“He left the house and the entire commercial real estate business to you.”
The words hung in the quiet room.
Wyatt squeezed my hand tightly, his knuckles turning white.
“To me?” I whispered. “Not to my mother and father?”
“They were only supposed to manage it until your twenty-fifth birthday,” Arthur explained.
“They were supposed to transition everything to your name last year.”
“Instead, they hid the documents, threatened me, and tried to force me out of my apartment.”
“They knew I was the only living witness to the signing.”
Detective Harper was writing rapidly in her notebook, her pen scratching against the paper.
“If those documents are in that lockbox, they prove grand larceny and fraud,” Harper said.
“And it gives Sadie a motive to be targeted by her own family,” Wyatt added.
“They didn’t just want to keep the money,” I realized. “They had to get rid of me before I found out the truth.”
