How a Military Commander Exposed the Betrayal of a Deceitful Husband
“There’s one more thing on that drive, Morgan,” he said quietly.
“Something she didn’t want either of us to ever find.”
“What is it?” I asked.
He looked at Hayes, then back at me.
“It’s the names of the people who helped her frame you for espionage,” Daniel said.
“They aren’t just local contractors.”
“They’re inside the military.”
“They’re on your base.”
My heart stopped.
I looked at General Hayes, whose expression turned instantly grim.
“Who, Daniel?” Hayes asked, his voice low and dangerous.
Daniel opened his mouth to speak, but before he could utter a word, his phone in his pocket began to ring.
The ringtone was loud, filling the quiet study.
He pulled it out and looked at the screen.
The caller ID showed a blocked number.
He looked at me, his eyes wide with fear.
“Answer it,” I whispered.
He pressed the speaker button.
A synthesized, distorted voice came through the speaker.
“Mr. Vance,” the voice said.
“Tell the Captain to put the drive back in the safe.”
“Or your daughter will not wake up tomorrow.”
The line went dead.
