“Downloading what?” Hayes asked.

The officer zoomed in on a series of encrypted file transfers.

“It looks like financial ledgers and banking records,” the officer said.

“Why would she be downloading banking records right now?” I asked.

Daniel’s head snapped up.

His face, which had been pale, turned completely white.

“That’s the family trust,” Daniel said, his voice cracking.

“The trust your father left behind?” I asked.

“Yes,” Daniel said. “My mother manages it.”

The officer looked at the screen, his eyebrows furrowing.

“These transfers aren’t just local,” the officer said.

“They are routing through an offshore server in the Cayman Islands.”

“She is moving money,” I said.

The room went cold.

I looked at the kitchen clock, the second hand ticking loudly.

“Specialist, can you trace the origin of those trust files?” Hayes asked.

“I can try, sir,” the officer said. “But the encryption is non-standard.”

“It looks like she used a proprietary software to mask the transaction history.”

Daniel took a step backward, his back hitting the refrigerator with a soft thud.

“She told me the trust was losing value because of the economy,” Daniel whispered.
