“She’s downstairs with the local deputy,” Vance said. “We have a bit of a situation developing.”

My grip tightened on the wool blanket.

“What kind of situation?”

“Your parents’ cruise ship just changed its course,” Vance said.

“They bypassed the port of Nassau,” he added. “They’re heading toward international waters.”

“And your sister Victoria just purchased three one-way tickets to Zurich from the ship’s computer terminal.”

My phone buzzed hard in my hand, the screen flashing with a video call request.

The caller ID showed my sister’s name.

I looked at Vance, then down at the screen, where the camera icon was pulsing green.

I tapped the green icon and swiped the screen to accept the call.

Victoria’s face filled the display, her hair windblown against a backdrop of gray ocean and white deck railings.

She wasn’t smiling.

“Rachel, what is going on with the offshore accounts?” she demanded, her voice competing with the roar of the wind.

“I tried to wire the retainer to the Zurich firm, and the transaction was rejected.”

I held the phone steady, keeping my face neutral.
