How a Desperate Dance with a Dangerous Stranger Rewrote Her Entire Destiny
“Tristan knew I was staying on the Upper East Side,” I said. “He knows my old habits. He set me up so you would eliminate me, clearing his path and distracting you from his own fraud.”
“That is a very convenient theory,” Arthur said, though his eyes narrowed slightly.
“Then let me prove it,” I said. “Let me give you Tristan on a platter.”
“And how do you propose to do that?”
“The Metropolitan Heritage Auction next week,” I said. “The gala is the biggest high-society event of the season. Tristan and Khloe are the main sponsors.”
Arthur watched me, his face a mask of calculated interest.
“Go on,” he murmured.
“I was hired as the lead PR coordinator for the event before Tristan stole my savings,” I said. “The committee hasn’t revoked my administrative access yet. I still control the media broadcast and the live-stream feed for the entire venue.”
“You want to use a charity auction to trap him?”
“Tristan is arrogant,” I said. “If I approach him under the guise of wanting to get back together, or offering him a way to bypass your security, he will talk. He loves to brag.”
