“He won’t confess to a crime just because you ask nicely, Kate.”

“He will if he thinks he is winning,” I said. “I will get him into a private room. I will get him to admit to the money laundering and the fraud on tape.”

Arthur reached into his pocket and drew out a small silver pocket watch, turning it over in his hand.

“And what do you do with this tape?” he asked.

“I won’t just hand it to the police,” I said. “I will patch the recording directly into the main media broadcast at the auction. In front of the city’s elite, the press, and Khloe Dupont’s family.”

Arthur’s lips curved into a very faint, dangerous smile.

“A public execution,” he said.

“He ruined my life,” I said, my voice hardening. “He took my money and my reputation. I want him to lose everything in the exact place he feels most secure.”

Arthur walked back to his desk and picked up a crystal decanter, pouring a small amount of amber liquid into a glass.

“Dominic will still want to kill you,” Arthur noted. “He does not trust easily.”
