“Exactly,” Margaret said.

“To justify an immediate discharge so Grant could take them before our injunction was filed.”

Vanessa took a step toward the door.

“This is a fabrication,” Vanessa said. “That footage is unverified.”

“Kevin is the lead network administrator for this shift,” Margaret said.

“He has already signed an affidavit verifying the authenticity of this file.”

“And the local police department has already been notified of computer fraud.”

Vanessa’s face went pale.

The confidence drained from her shoulders.

“Grant will handle this,” she said, though her voice lacked its earlier strength.

“Grant is currently in the lobby trying to explain to the chief of medicine why his signature is on the transfer authorization,” Margaret said.

“But the chief is currently reading this report.”

She took a printed document from her briefcase and showed it to Vanessa.

“The babies are staying here,” Margaret said.

“They are being moved back to the high-security nursery under my personal protection.”

Vanessa looked at the screen, then at Margaret, and finally at me.

She did not say another word.
