On the screen, Vanessa swiped an ID badge she had taken from a desk nearby.

She typed rapidly into the keyboard.

“Look at her hand,” Margaret said, pointing to the screen.

“She is wearing a silver ring on her index finger.”

“That is the same ring she wore to the press conference last week.”

“There is no denying it is her.”

The camera angle was sharp.

We could see the blue light of the monitor reflecting off Vanessa’s glasses.

She had a small black phone pressed to her ear as she typed.

She was smiling.

“Who was she talking to?” I asked.

“The phone records show a call to Grant’s personal line at that exact minute,” Margaret said.

“He was directing her from the lobby.”

“He knew exactly what she was doing.”

“We recovered the keystroke logs as well,” Margaret said.

“She accessed the charts for Baby A, Baby B, and Baby C.”

“She modified the oxygen saturation levels from seventy percent to ninety-eight percent.”

“She altered the birth weight records.”

I stared at the screen, my chest tightening.

“She made them look healthy on paper,” I whispered.
